Models Looks Direct From the Catwalk – Fearless Fashionista’s Top Two

Followers of fashion have witnessed some pretty outrageous looks emerge this year but two of the biggest stories to make it to the high street are distressed jeans and thigh boots (not necessarily together!).
These items are not for the faint-hearted, but if you have the confidence to give them a try here’s a breakdown of both looks and how to make them work for you.
Distressed jeans
Love or loathe them, distressed jeans are still big news. After Balmain’s sellout spring/summer collection took the fashion world by storm the look appears to be staying with us for at least another season. Stars sporting this trend include Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Rachel Bilson, SJP, Ashley Olsen and Kate Bosworth. There are lots of ways to wear them if you have the confidence, so here are some tips from the Models Direct office:
o Keep the fit skinny and low rise
o Pair your faded jeans with a vintage rock chick vest/t-shirt
o Add a leather biker jacket, military jacket, or polish the look with a crisp cut blazer
o Dress up your look and make it dancefloor-appropriate with ankle boots, studded/embellished high heels or strappy platforms
o Bunch the jeans up at the ankle or roll the hem to show off your footwear
o Accessorise with studded or spiked jewellery
o Be afraid of straps, skulls, ruffles and studs… the more the better!
o Pair with florals or fussy prints
o Pair with feminine blouses
Over-the-knee boots
Thigh boots are back for the bold! After featuring heavily on the catwalk this year, thigh boots are being hailed as the ultimate autumn/winter 2009 ‘must have’ for the brave fashionista.
These risque boots come with a certain amount of implied eroticism attached so you need to put some thought into how you wear them. Here are some tips that may help:
o Stay away from patent and go for natural-looking materials like suede or genuine leather.
o Go for muted shades of grey, brown and even cream.
o You don’t have to wear this look with a stiletto heel – try some flats or go for wedges.
o Match your tights to your boots or tuck in skinny jeans or leggings that complement the colour for a leggier ‘look’.
o Tone down the rest of your outfit.
To achieve a similar look, wear the tallest boots you already own, with over-the-knee socks layered over dark tights.
If you feel really brave you can wear both looks together, as seen recently on Ciara and Kate Hudson.
